Samson Head Start Orientation & Registration for 2026-2027

Once your child's registration form is complete with all necessary information, we have orientation scheduled from Wednesday, September 2, to Friday, September 4, 2026, located at the Samson Head Start building.

AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM 2026-2027

Registration for our After School Care Program is now open for the 2026–2027 school year! Offered through FNCFS Prevention Programming funding, this program provides a safe, supportive environment for Samson Cree Nation children ages 6–12.

Program Details & Enrollment:

Priority Enrollment: Given to low-income and single-parent households within the Samson Cree Nation, following FNCFS funding guidelines.
Staff: Delivered by fully trained and certified Samson Head Start and FNCFS team members.
Notifications: Parents and caregivers will be contacted directly by email or phone to confirm program acceptance.
Tentative Start Date: Mid-October 2026. Please note: Start dates are subject to change as we complete ongoing construction to ensure the safest possible environment for our children.

2026 SCN Initiation

& Traditional Pow Wow

On August 6th, 2026, the Samson Head Start (ELCC Partnership & Governance) hosted the 4th Annual Initiation Pow Wow, which included a one-day Traditional Pow Wow. Newly initiated dancers and drummers had the opportunity to participate in the traditional pow wow and receive day pay.

The event was successful, attracting visitors who had travelled in from all over for the Samson Cree Nation Pow Wow. Without the SCN ELCC Manager and Initiation Pow Wow planning committee, this would not be possible. An update on dancers will be provided shortly.

Successful Turnout for Traditional Cree Star Teachings!

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the Traditional Cree Star Teachings with George Desjarlais! We had a fantastic turnout, with nearly 40 youth and adults participating across our morning and afternoon sessions.

Attendees stepped inside the mobile dome for an immersive virtual look at the night sky, deepening their connection to traditional Cree stories and ancient wayfinding techniques. Because this event was such a hit, we are already looking forward to bringing George Desjarlais back to the community soon—hopefully in an even larger space so we can welcome even more of you!

This workshop was proudly delivered as part of our SHS-FNCFS Prevention Programming. While our primary focus and budget guidelines dedicate our day-to-day services to at-risk children ages 0 to 6 living on-reserve, we love being able to open doors for broader community learning experiences like this one whenever possible.

Huge Success for our Tiny Tot Moccasin Making Workshop!

Tansi! We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent Moccasin Making workshop. Thanks to our brand-new space, we were able to welcome our largest turnout in years! It was beautiful to see the room filled with so much creativity and community spirit.

A special shoutout to our incredible facilitator, Myrna Yellowbird. As always, Myrna was amazing—sharing her immense expertise and guiding everyone to bring whatever unique design they envisioned to life.

We love hosting these events and are already planning more workshops specifically for parents and caregivers with children aged 0–6.
