The Samson Head Start program provides Early Intervention Advocacy in the lives of children and families living on-reserve, daily head start program services children from 2-6 years of age. We provide a variety of programs for children and families servicing children ages 0-6 years of age.
Samson Head Start's mission is to cultivate relevant age appropriate activities based on the Nêhiyawêwin (Cree) Culture in Maskwacis.
Our approach is to encourage children's creativity and learning through hands-on discovery in a responsive and stimulating environment. We work to provide an environment where all children and families feel welcome and included.
Samson Head Start Program (SHS) is 1 of 5 Head Start sites in Maskwacis, and 1 of 17 Aboriginal Head Start Programs located in Treaty no. 6 Territory.
Samson Head Start is under the Samson Cree Nation, and works in partnership with the Treaty no. 6 Alberta Head Starts On-Reserve programs to develop Aboriginal led curriculum.
The Samson Cree Nation Early Learning and Treaty Protectorate and Enforcement are hosting an engagement where Ketayak and Awisisak will come together for discussions on Samson Cree Nation Sovereignty, Treaty, and early learning, as well as the Nipisihkopahk Awasisak Declaration, and succession planning for the future.
The Event will be held at the Bear Hills Powwow Grounds on June 16 and 17, 2025, for 12-35 year olds (youth) and Elders 65+
Please note that 12-15 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.
Transportation is available for SCN members. A light lunch will be provided, with limited spots available. An incentive will be provided for SCN members who attend both days.

The ISC-FNIHB sent out a memo with information about measles outbreak and immunization requirements in Alberta.
Measles and potential risks for all-ages.
Measles tends to be more severe in babies and adults.
If you were born before 1970, there is a good chance you are immune to measles, as you were likely exposed to measles when it circulated widely before 1970.
